East Meets West Art Exhibit
June 18—September 18, 2017
Galaudet Gallery is celebrating its fourth year in downtown Eau Claire with a refreshing art exhibit inspired by Eastern and Western healing modalities and spiritual pursuits called East Meets West June 14 thru September 18 at 618 S. Farwell, Eau Claire, WI.
Thorp, Wisconsin resident and co-owner of Galaudet Gallery Vicki Milewski is delighted, “It’s been a privilege to work with so many great artists conversant with our ‘Year of 21st Century Realities’ theme since this exhibit of healing and spiritual art could only happen because of the 21st Century’s wide access to information from around the world. Exhibits like our East Meets West can help move us toward a truly global art.”
Vicki’s brother and co-owner Mike Milewski adds, “We’re proud to present our fourth year of the My Medicine Art Show series. Originally inspired by artist Oscar Howe, we continue our quest for defining health and healing by adding the element of spirituality through the eyes of these dynamic artists. We enjoy bringing our audience in the Chippewa Region and beyond another engaging exhibit that will spark talk about health and healing maybe igniting new ideas. Eau Claire is a great place for provocative exhibits like this, because most visitors are not shy about art and we enjoy lively dialog at Galaudet Gallery.”
Fifty emerging and established artists were chosen by judges looking for original art inspired by healing modalities and spiritual pursuits from the East, West or both and were cognizant of Galaudet Gallery’s 2017 theme: “Year of 21st Century Realities”. On view and for sale are paintings, drawings, watercolors, crystals, jewelry, prints, photography, sculptures, fine crafts, meditational items and music chosen specifically for this East Meets West art exhibit.
One of the judges from Turkey, Haurun Merts, explains the judging, “It was edifying to see the range of expression in the over 250 pieces of art we chose from; we decided on energetic pieces with a presence and maybe a history above others.”
Lively artworks like Texan artist Erin Schalk’s Interconnectedness 1, 2 and 3 have abstracted movement embracing everyone’s need for being connected and Wisconsinite Vicki Milewski’s Sun Always Rises 1 and 2 showing dancers pulling the sun up as they hold stars in their gesturing hands.
Introspective pieces are seen in English artist Emma Connolly’s oil painting Skin and Bone #7 showing a new angle to a very Western view of health while New England’s Taylor Maroney’s Emotional Anatomy of Taylor shows an evolution of emotional anatomy that brings home a sense that we all share in our emotional realities,.
Astonishing art is found in California’s Marciana Scott who incorporates healing stones and gold leaf into her deeply textured paintings confirming healthy abundance found in the shifting colors and shine each viewer experiences and Bhutan’s Gyempo Wangchuk 21st Century vision of Buddhist ideals electrifies with color.
Graphically charged works like Farah Husain’s Cosmic Energy and Third Eye have a graffiti appearance until the shapes are seen as spiritually symbolic and potent. There is much more breathtaking art as artists share their work responding to pursuits in spirituality and health at Galaudet Gallery.
Also juried into East Meets West are over a hundred pieces of one of a kind healing jewelry from unique artists local and international: Herkimer Crystals from Herkimer, New York artist Atilla Arjuna; Buddha Babe’s heirloom quality pieces inspired by farming in Clark County, Wisconsin; Lublin’s Barb G combines chakras and Polish aesthetics, Mt Shasta’s Kudo graces the walls with radiant jewelry incorporating her work with ascended masters; Rapid City’s Sun Bear uses pipestone and turquoise in his Native silver-smith and there are more jewelry artists.

So stop in and join this celebration of health, spirit and Galaudet Gallery’s fourth year by viewing refreshing art that can bring new ideas and fun; enjoying cool drinks, trying tasty treats, and perusing new age jewelry, meditation supplies, healing rocks, and other amazing items for sale at Eau Claire’s Galaudet Gallery’s art exhibit East Meets West.

Galaudet Gallery Exhibitions
Galaudet Gallery plans exhibitions in order to introduce the public to certain art and artists, as part of scholarship moments within art and cultural history and for pure enjoyment. Each exhibition has a theme which is curated with gallery artists and others who offer high quality fine art. Galaudet Gallery seeks art that is inspiring, culturally significant, high quality and is a great investment now and in the future. Galaudet Gallery also supports the 21st Century Art Movement which continues the work of the Arts and Crafts Movement from the turn of the last century which sought to unite the arts and high quality crafts on equal footing. Both the Chicago and Eau Claire gallery spaces hold exhibits that can be the same or different depending on the schedule.

Background
Galaudet Gallery seeks to rejuvenate the Arts and Crafts Movement founded in the early 1900’s by a group of artists and craftspeople that believed high quality and carefully crafted items were products of artistic integrity and should be accepted as art and be available for everyday life. Their belief that the Industrial Revolution and automation disconnected us from ourselves, each other and nature can be seen as happening today through our digital revolution. Galaudet Gallery believes that we are at the same transition point as the Industrial Revolution and in need of bringing together artists and craftspeople who believe in the arts as a way to keep us connected with each other and nature. These connections can be through a beautiful photo of a sunset over a farm lake, the sparkle of a wine colored natural garnet stone, the feel of turquoise on our skin, the brushstroke of a painting or a fine art print that will last for decades. Visit Galaudet Gallery and have a gala-day!
Galaudet Gallery sells fine art from professional fine artists and emerging talent
including oil painting, photography, sculpture, mixed media and multi-media pieces.
Galaudet Gallery curates several fine art exhibitions a year including education, archaeological ideas, decorative arts and events as a part of each exhibition.
